Prior to August 2009 I had spent my life
avoiding any and every form of writing. I have
had a near lifelong fear, perhaps even a
phobia. My fear of writing was so severe that I
actually turned down lucrative coaching
projects rather than write the required
proposal.
Then a strange, life altering experience
happened to me in June of 2009. I had the
pleasure of an emergency room visit, during
which I spent a night in the cardiac care unit,
only to finally discover that I am perfectly heart
healthy.
I returned home with a strange urge to capture
my experiences in writing and send them to
my three friends (yes, I only have 3) who had
expressed concern over my whereabouts
during those few days. I wrote a short essay
on my encounter with the Alberta health care
system that included several parts of the
experience that I had found to be quite
humorous.
A few days later one of my friends told me
that she had found my story to be amusing
enough to forward to several of her friends
and colleagues. Our world has indeed been
made much smaller by this thing called the
Internet.
Within a week I had received more than fifty
emails from around the world from people
telling me my story had given them a good
laugh and in turn sharing their own
hospital/ER experiences. Their comments
gave me the impetus to continue writing and
thus my blog Train Your Brain the Rael Way –
life sinks or soars to the beat of your thoughts
was born.
My intention in writing the blog was, and still
is, to provide a light hearted, humorous
depiction of life’s experiences while providing
learnings from the OnCourse philosophy.
My readers have been tolerant of my writing
and each week I receive upwards of 6o
emails within 48 hours of posting a new blog.
Most of the emails (and the few posted
comments on the blog itself) are both
supportive and encouraging and sprinkled
among them have been a few suggestions
that I perform anatomically impossible feats
on myself.
